WORD has been implementing the
Litclub program with the funding support of Litworld, USA from December 2016.
Under this program, WORD is facilitating 5 litclubs. This program provides
young people engaged with productive literacy experience during the
out-of-school time and backed by Litworld's Guided by LitWorld's “7
Strengths” – Belonging, Curiosity, Friendship, Kindness, Confidence,
Courage and Hope.
As part of the program, The World
Read Aloud Day (WRAD) 2017 was celebrated on February 18, 2017 at Namakkal with the
participation of the children and community. World Read Aloud Day is all about
spreading a love for reading. Every year, people all around the globe celebrate
WRAD by reading and sharing stories together. World Read Aloud Day is about taking
action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all
people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to
celebrate the power of words and creates a community of readers advocating for
every child’s right for a safe education and access to books and technology.
The children were oriented on the importance of World Read Aloud Day. The children then divided into group and engaged in various activities that motivates them to facilitate deep thought and discussions on selected topics, liberate creativity, to create a web of connectives showing the similarities and differences among the readers and make the read aloud a dynamic experience.
