Inaguration of Vocational Training Center and Residential Home for Children

Terre des Hommes- Netherlands (TdH-NL) supports the building construction half-way home for children and the vocational training center for WORD. North East Constructions have done the construction and the inauguration of the building held on 23rd November 2009. Mr. Lei Brouns, Regional Director, South Asia, TdH-NL inaugurated the building in the presence of Mr. Meru Miller, Program Officer, TdH-NL, India in a glittering ceremony with a gathering around 500 beneficiaries in Namakkal.
The inauguration program was started by 3 pm. Mr. Lei Brouns, Regional Director; TdH-NL South Asia inaugurated both these buildings in the presence of Mr. Meru Miller, Program Officer, TdH-NL in India. After the formal inauguration of the building the inauguration function was held. Mrs. M. Renida Sarala, Director, WORD welcomed all the gathering and she read the narration of ‘blooming buds’ project.
In the felicitation note, Mr. Lei Brouns said that ‘Terre des Hommes’ means ‘Earth for the humanity’ and it does not belong to any religion, language or caste. He is happy to be here in Namakkal for the inaugural program. He said that the half-way home will serve the children to go further in their life. He found many young people in Srilanka are searching jobs after completed their college education. This vocational training program helps people to earn more income to come up their life in a much bigger way.
Mr. Meru reiterated what Mr. Lei has addressed. He thanked Mr. Rajendran, North East Constructions who built the building. He also thanked to those who helped WORD in identifying the land and those who helped to run the half way home and the vocational training center to function in the rented building. He requested people to co-ordinate with WORD to achieve many more things and to serve for many people especially from the marginalized community.
Mr. Rajmohan, Program Manager, WORD rendered the thanking note. In his address he highlighted that WORD feel the triple rejoice to have the building in a time when Mr. Lei celebrate his silver jubilee with TdH-NL and the silver jubilee year of TdH-NL’s presence in India. The guests were honoured with shawl and momento. All the workers of North East Constructions were given new dresses as a token of tamizh tradition and culture.
The cultural programs by the children of WORD held. Moved by the heart, many SHGs made donations to the children to WORD in the stage. The teachers of SBM School, Namakkal donated a momento to WORD. The beneficiaries of Blooming Buds Project, NGO friends, well wishers of WORD, staff of WORD were gathered in huge number to the program.

WORD will work for migrant workers in Namakkal District

Hello Friends,
It is indeed glad to share you that we will take up a new project with the funding suppot of Tamilnadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS), Chennai. Through this project, we will work for the prevention of STI and HIV/AIDS among migrant workers in Namakkal District.

WORD will work for Link Workers Scheme in Namakkal and Paramathy Taluks in Namakkal District under GFATM Round 7/ NACO

Recently WORD was select to implement link workers scheme in Namakkal and Paramathy Taluks in Namakkal District by AIDS Prevention and Control Project (APAC), Chennai under GFATM 7/ NACO. Recently the MoU has been signed between APAC and WORD.

Why Link Workers Scheme?
- Over the years virus has moved from the urban to rural areas from High risk to general population.
-Disproportionately affecting women and the youth.
- 38% of total infections are among women.
-37% of total infection are among young persons <29 years.
-Over 57% of the infected live in rural areas.
Objectives of the Link Workers Scheme?
- To reach out to ‘high risk groups’ and vulnerable young people in rural areas with information, knowledge and skills on STI/HIV prevention and risk reduction.
- To promote increased and consistent use of condoms with casual and regular partners.

-To establish inter-linkages between gender, sexuality and HIV and bring into focus the factors that enhances vulnerability of young people and women both in High risk groups and general population.
- To generate awareness and enhance utilization of prevention, care and support programmes & services (especially STI, ICTC, PPTCT, ART and DOT)
-To create an enabling environment for PLHIVs and their families by reducing stigma and discrimination.
- To facilitate the re integration of high risk groups into the community and recognition of their rights.
- To work with community Village health committees and other community structures such as SHG,PRI

WORD will implement this project with 4 Supervisors and 16 Link Workers who will work intensively in the villages. The recruitment of staff is on. Having completed the formal training program, the project activities will formally start with the Mapping Exercises in the villages.

Soon WORD will have new building for its Short Stay Home and Vocational Training Centre

Terre Des Hommes- Nederlands supports WORD for Project Blooming Buds- an overall development of children in 40 villages in Namakkal District. Under this project, WORD runs a short stay home for children and a vocational training centre. Soon, WORD will have its new building for the short stay home and the vocational training centre with the funding support of TdH-Nederlands.

Foundation Stone Laying function

On 14th January 2009 during the Pongal day, the foundation stone laying function held at the project site in Teachers Colony in Thummankurichi Panchayat in Namakkal District. Mr. P. Ramesh, Project Co-ordinator welcomed the distinguised guests and all the gathering. Mr. Meru, Program Officer, TdHNL-India unveiled the foundation stone and delivered the key note address. Mrs. Meru, Mr. Ranjithkumar Singh, Project Officer-TdHNL India, Er. Rajendran, NE Construction Company, Mr. Ravi, President- Thummankurichi Panchayat were also present during the simple function. Mrs. Renida Sarala proposed vote of thanks.
