AIDS prevention and Control Project (APAC) managed by Voluntary Health Services, Chennai has completed 17 years in the field of prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in Tamilnadu with the funding support of United Stations Agency for International Development (USAID). To mark this historic occasion, APAC has organized Civil Society Partnership in HIV/AIDS Program at Hotel GRT, Chennai to recognize the partner NGOs on 9th March 2012.
During the program, WORD has received the certificate of Honour for partnered with APAC in controlling HIV/AIDS epidemic in Tamilnadu. On behalf of WORD, Mrs. M. Renida Sarala, Director received the certificate from Mr. William Hammink, Mission Director, USAID/India and Ms. Denise Rollins, Deputy Administrator, USAID/Asia, Ms. Kerry Pelzman, USAID/India and Dr. Bimal Charles, Project Director, APAC Project. The program was also attended by Dr. E. S. Krishnamoorthy, Honorary Secretary, Voluntary Health Association, Dr. A. C. Mohandoss, Project Director, Tamilnadu State AIDS Control Society, Mr. Saidai .Sa. Duraisamy, Mayor of Chennai Municipality.
It is noted that WORD has implemented ‘Truckers Town Intervention Project’ a STI and HIV/AIDS intervention project among the truckers and helpers in Namakkal Town from October 2003- September 2008 and the Link Workers Scheme in 8 blocks in Namakkal District for the period from October 2008-November 2009 with the support of APAC project.
This event fetched a fresh thought when APAC organised a farewell program on November 14, 2008 at the same venue. We are sharing a snap that was taken during the program.
