District Need Assessment on Child Protection in Namakkal District

WORD, today has signed an agreement with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) under the Department of Social Defence, Govt of Tamilnadu in Namakkal district to undertake Need Assessment of Child Protection in Namakkal District with the following scope of work. 
  • Conduct a comprehensive need assessment in the district, on child protection by establishing the nature and magnitude of the gaps in knowledge, skills, aptitudes and attitudes of the existing child protection services in each District.
  • Make Situation Analysis and mapping of District, preparation of Annual District Plans, resource mapping, preparation of resource directory, child tracking, etc. The Annual plan can be prepared at Block level.
  • Determine the measures required to bridge the identified gaps, which may include, but not limited to, recommendation of the required service delivery mechanism, structures, required expertise, the level of training, training institutions, etc.
  • Identify the technical, administrative and management issues which can be addressed by the District Administration. 
  • Prepare District Plan for Child Protection for each Block.
  • Any other duties as relevant to the assignment.

Special Program to mark World Day against Child Labour


Special Program to mark World Day against Child Labour

In Co-ordination with National Child Labour Elimination Program, Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS), Namakkal, WORD organised a special program to mark World Day against Child Labour in Pallipalayam today.



The students and parents of the three special schools for child labourers were participated. Special programs were organised to bring out the talents of the child labourers. Prizes were also distributed to the students.

During the program, Mrs. Jayanthi, Child Protection Officer- Namakkal, Mr. Jayapal, Child Welfare Committee member, Namakkal also participated.

Exposure Visit to WORD


St. Joseph's Home for Children, a NGO based at Kalugumalai in Tuticorin district, who is also a partner of Terre des Hommes, Netherlands visited WORD in Namakkal on 23rd and 24th April 2013 for an exposure visit to Project Blooming Buds and the TdH-NL Revolving Fund for Relief of Poor Program. 

On 23rd April 2013, Mr. M. Rajmohan, Program Manager oriented the staff of St. Joseph's Home for Children on Project Blooming Buds which focuses the prevention and protection  of children from various exploitative situations in Namakkal and the socio/economic development Program through the support of Terre des Hommes, Netherlands. They also interacted with the Project Staff on the various field level strategies, field based issues and the best practices. They were oriented on the various documentation methods. In the afternoon, they visited the project sites at Namakkal visiting the exploited families and SHGs. 

On 24th April 2013, the team visited the administrative office of WORD at Pallipalayam where Mr. R. Sathyamoorthy, Project Co-ordinator oriented them on the socio/economic development program supported by TdH-NL Revolving Fund for Relief of Poor Program. Mr. P. Gnanasekar, Accountant oriented the team on the accounts and financial procedures. 

The team also visited the SHGs who are benefitting from the TdH-NL Fund for Relief of Poor Program.

Follow up Family Visit


The staff from Rural Institute for Community Education- Mathagondapalli Model School based at Mathagondappalli village next to Hosur has visited WORD from 17-18 April 2013. They have visited the families of children who are studying at MMS enrolled by WORD. They had interactions with the parents and caregivers of the children and assessed the family situation. 






Under Blooming Buds Project with the support of Terre des Hommes, Netherlands, 26 children from WORD are pursuing their education and Mathagondapalli Model School.

Micro Scale CDM Biogas of WORD | Preparedness Assessment Visit

Visit in an end user family in RasipuramMs. Gita Peters, Projects Manager, Tech Team of Fair Climate Network, Bangalore visited WORD from 17-18, April 2013 to assess the project preparedness of the Micro Scale CDM biogas Project. 

She had discussions with the Project Staff about the crucial checklists and visited the end user families where the domestic biogas plants were recently built and commissioned in Namakkal.

Camp Rainbow 2013 | Fun For Children in Summer



This year too, 12 children have been selected to Camp Rainbow 2013 which is to be held from 20th May -24th May 2013 at Chennai. 

The Camp Rainbow aims to engage the HIV infected children with life skills education with fun filled games and activities. Frequent follow up programs with the children are also held throughout the year. We at WORD are also happy to be part of Camp Rainbow 2013. In the year 2012, 12 children have attended the Camp Rainbow between May 7-18, 2012. 

The Camp Rainbow is jointly organised in India by Y. R. Gaitonde Center for AIDS Research  and Community Health Education Society (CHES) in support with Serious fun Network, USA.

Training for Masons in Biogas Unit Construction

WORD is all set to launch the Microscale CDM biogas project in Namakkal District along with its 3 partners of SCINDeA Network.









A 3 days hands on training from 5th-8th February 2013 to the masons in constructing the Dheenabhandu model of biogas units held in ADATS working area in Chinthamani block next to Bagepalli. The masons learnt how to mark for the construction, bedding processes, fittings, constructions by stage by stage, plastering processes from the trained masons of ADATS.

The trained masons of WORD will be training the other masons. It is decided to construct 5 biogas plants immediately in Namakkal District as a post training exercise.
