Workshop on HIV/AIDS

WORD in co-ordination with Kings College of Arts and Science for Women in N. Pudupatti, Namakkal organised a half a day workshop on HIV/AIDS on 30th September, 2011.

The students were oriented on basics on HIV/AIDS, STIs, transmission routes, prevention strategies, treatment for STIs, community and home based care concepts, counselling techniques, testing procedures, ART and promotion of mainstreaming efforts.

Mrs. Kalpana, Outreach Co-ordinator oriented the students. During the program, the Principal of the College, Mr. Sekar participated.

An update of Junior Jeevan

An update from Junior Jeevan

To sustain the community based initiative for the CHAHA project in Salem project which was implemented by WORD with the support of PWDS/HIV Alliance under GFATM 6, WORD formed and promoted a children conglomeration called Junior Jeevan which was formally inaugurated on 28 November 2010.

About a year after its start, it is quite pertinent to look back the progress made by the Junior Jeevan Federation.

As promised Sankari Lorry Owners' Association helped a financial support to a tune of Rs 28000 to    support the educational support for the children affected by HIV/AIDS who were covered under CHAHA  project.  The aid was given away to the beneficiaries by the President, Mr. in a function held at the Sankari  Lorry Owners Association on 23rd July 2011.

We at WORD are quite grateful to all the supporters especially the Sankari Lorry Owners Association.

Exposure visit to WORD by SCINDeA Network Partners

In order to get know a greater understanding on socio-economic development initiatives, the partners of SCINDeA Network visited WORD to get to know the Socio-Economic development activities of WORD for two days from 10-11 June 2011.

Mrs. M. Renida Sarala, Director oriented the team on the activities of WORD's socio-economic development program with a power point presentation. She also clarified the doubts of the partners. The process documents of WORD were also shared with the partners.

The partners were taken to the field by clustering them by 4 groups. Having after the field visit, the partners shared their field level observations and wanted to replicate them in their respective NGOs.

Exposure visit to CDM LCF project

In order to gain insight about CDM project, WORD team have undergone an expsoure visit on 6th and 7th May 2011 to BEST NGO in Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu, who is implementing CDM-Low Carbon Farming (LCF) project.

The WORD team has been oriented about CDM- LCM projects by Mr. Adhiyaman, Director, BEST. The staff were get to know about the concepts of CDM-LCM project, selection of beneficiaries, family survey, data collection and analysis, MIS and other project concepts.



The staff also visited two villages, Thattampatti and Perunkudipatti and interacted with the CDM- LCF beneficiaries.

Orientation Training for CDM Project

WORD will soon implement CDM Biogas Project in Namakkal District as part of SCINDeA Biogas project through Fair Climate Network. The induction training for this project held at ADATS campus in Bagepalli, Karnataka on 15th May 2011.





Mr. Ram Esteves oriented the staff. The staff were also taken to the field to get to know the procedures, strategies and the current practical usage to minimize the emissions of CO2.

Project Visit to Blooming Buds Project


  





Mr. P. Thangaperumal, Project Officer, Terre des Hommes, Netherlands and Ms. Annepriya, Operational Manager, NELINDCO Foundation visited WORD from 12-14 May 2011 to assess the progress of Blooming Buds Project supported by TdH-NL.

They interacted with the project staff, verify the program reports and visited the residential home, vocational training centre and target areas to get to know the rogram results and improved quality of life of people from the services of blooming buds project.

NABFINS, Bangalore officials visited WORD and the self help groups under WORD's kitty. They had interacted with the SHG members and got to know the best practices and the initiatives for income generation programs and have seen the SHG products.

Medical Camp for the Spinning Mill Workers in Namakkal

WORD organised a general medical camp for the spinning mill workers at KKP Spinning Mills in its Salem Road unit in Namakkal on 23rd April 2011.

Around 100 workers benefitted through the medical camp. Dr. Marimuthu helped WORD in the successful completion in its endeavour.

Updates on Thalir Thittan Thittam

WORD has taken up Thalir Thiran Thittam ( A transformation change through awareness) project in Namakkal District with a support of Aparjitha Foundation, a CSR arm of TVS Group.


 

The project is about to teach life skills education program for the students in the five Government schools in Namakkal District. Under this project, WORD trained the school teachers to teach the core life skills education program for the students in VII and VIII standard.

The project is being implemented in the following five schools in Namakkal district for the academic year of 2010-2011.

- SBM High School, Namakkal.
- Kandasamy Kandar Hr. Sec. School, Namakkal.
- SPB High School, Pallipalayam.
- Maha Deva Vidhyalam, Trichengode.
- St. Antony's Hr. Sec. School, Trichengode.

The induction training program for the school teachers held at WORD Office on 9th December 2010 at Namakkal.

The classes have been started for the students in Standard VII and VIII in the respective schools from December 2010. The classes that have planned for this academic year have been completed in all the schools in Namakkal District.

The children, teachers and the school management are keen to take up this education further to the overall development of children in the schools.

Revolving Loan for the Self Help Groups

Rs 15,00,000 loans were awarded to 25 women self help groups under WORD. These loans were awarded by the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu during his recent visit to Namakkal on 18th January 2011.

Each self help group will get Rs 60,000 out of which Rs 10000 will be a subsidy.

21 groups from Pallipalayam and 4 groups from Namakkal benefitted through this loan assistance.

Insurance for Livestocks

Under the micro-credit program supported by NELINDCO Foundation, few beneficiaries were given loans to buy milch animals for income generation activities.


Considering the importance of the insurance, in co-ordination with NELINDCO foundation, the milch animals were insured by TATA AIG insurance. The tagging process for this held on 9th January 2011.


 

TTT Program Updates

Updates of Thalir Thiran Thittam Program


 As part of the Thalir Thittam Program, the classes began in the schools with the audio visual aids provided by Aparjitha Foundation. As part of the program, a session was conducted with St. Antony's Hr. Sec. School in Trichengode on 5th January 2011.




On 8th January, 2011, the program was conducted in SPB High School, Pallipalayam. 139 students from 7th standard and 146 students from 8th standard attended the program and got enriched with the life skills.




The programs were well appreciated with the teachers and very much liked by the students.
