Training for Teachers on TTT Program.

With the support of Aparjitha Foundation, WORD implements the Thalir Thiran Program in Namakkal District. As part of the program, the program is being implemented in five schools in Namakkal District.

The induction and orientation training for the teachers held today (9 December 2010) at our office in Namakkal. The teachers from all the five schools participated in the training program.

The teachers found it as a valuable program to the children.

Launch of 'Junior Jeevan'- the children federation under CHAHA project

The launching program of 'Junior Jeevan- the children federation' held on November 28, 2010 at Sankari. This is in an effort for the children to own the project and to continue the support services to the beneficiary families of CHAHA project. Junior Jeevan is a group of 12 trained children affected by HIV/AIDS from 6 blocks of Salem Distict will lead to mobilise and leverage the resources to the 513 HIV/AIDS affected families that were identified by CHAHA project team of WORD in Salem district in Tamilnadu, India.


The program held at Lorry Owners Association Hall in Sankari, Salem District with 100% mobilisation from the local people. Mr. M. R. Kumarasamy, Secretary & Mr. V. Selvaraj, Joint Secretary of Sankari Lorry Owners' Association, Mr. Clement Winsley and Mr. Sakthi Prakash from PWDS-Marthandam graced the program. From the Government side, Mr. Selvam, District Supervisor, DAPCU and Ms. Gandhimathi, staff-in-charge, CABA program felicitated the program.

The lions Club of Sankari provided the meals for all the gatherings. A resource directory for HIV/AIDS was released during the program. Mrs. M. Renida Sarala, Director explained about the concept of 'Junior Jeevan'.

8 sponsors were signed the sponsorship forms to meet the educational expenditures of the children affected by HIV/AIDS. The sufferings of the children were enacted by the children. Around 600 children with parents participated in the program.

939 children affected by HIV/AIDS were reached under CHAHA program so far. The CHAHA project will be ending by March 2010.

We happy to see that community based care and support project moving its way slowly into community owned care and support project.

Childrens' Day Program in Chinnagoundampalayam village.


 














Childrens Day Program


WORD organised a special program to mark Childrens Day in Chinnagoundampalayam village in Pallipalayam on 14 November 2010 under SCINDeA project. The inauguration program was attended and felicitated by Mr. P. Yuvaraj, President, Alampalayam Panchayat Union, Mr. K. Shanthamurthy, Inspector of Police, Pallipalayam, Mr. P. Gunasekharan, 15th Ward Counsellor, Alampalayam Panchayat.

The day long program consists of various programs for the children to exhibit their talents. The winners were awarded with prizes. A large number of children and women participated in the program.

Children Federation under CHAHA Project

WORD implments CHAHA project in 4 blocks in Salem District. Under this project, a children federation by name Junior Jeevan (Jeevan literally means life in Tamil) with 12 children was formed and its first orientation meeting held at Mettur Dam in Salem District on 23rd October 2010.

Mrs. M. Renida Sarala, Director, WORD interacted with the children in the federation and oriented them. Mrs. R. Sathyamoorthy, Project-in-charge, Mr. Anand and Mr. Sathrack Dinakaran did also train the children.

Women's Organisation in Rural Development (WORD): Training for Watchdog Committee Members in Pallipalayam block

Community Play Mela in Tamilnadu

With the support of Terre des Hommes, Netherlands, Women’s Organisation in Rural Development (WORD) organized community play mela, a state level play program held at Government Hr. Sec. School (North) campus in Namakkal on 30 October 2010 in co-ordination with 13 other NGOs.

To mark this program, an awareness rally was conducted with the participation of children and public. The rally started in Hotel Radhaprasad premises and concluded in Government Hr. Sec. School (North) campus. The Namakkal municipality Chairman Mr. LGB. R. Selvaraj flagged off the rally. A photo exhibition on community play mela was also organized during the event.

Mr. M. Rajmohan, Program Manager welcomed all for the inauguration program. The Director of WORD, Mrs. M. Renida Sarala read the key note address. She in her address reiterated that to show interest among games by the community and to co-ordinate the people among all sections of the society and to improve the health and to encourage the traditional games.

A Compact disc was also released during the program. The Namakkal Municipality Chairman Mr. LGB. R Selvaraj released the CD and Mr. K. Ragunathan, District Sports Officer- Namakkal District received the CD. In his felicitation address, Mr. LGB. R. Selvaraj reiterated that the community play mela program should be held often to unite all sections of the people. Mr. Narayanan, Trustee, SIVA Trust- Sankarankovil rendered vote of thanks.

Following to this traditional sports like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Running (100 mts, 200 mts, 400 mts), Sack race, Pachakuthirai, Leg Cricket, Top, Long Jump, Tug of War, Pot Breaking were held. Special programs were also held for the special children and women were also held. At the end, the traditional programs were held.

Like Tamilnadu Zone, similar programs will also be held at Kerala, Karnataka North and South, Andhrapradesh and Goa zones.

The south India level community play mela will be held at 18th November 2010 at Mathagondappalli Model School next to Hosur with the participation of 35 NGOs.

Training for Watchdog Committee Members in Pallipalayam block

WORD Organised a one day training for the watchdog committee members held in Government Girls.Hr. Sec. School campus in Pallipalayam in Namakkal District on 29 October 2010.

Supported by Tamilnadu Voluntary Health Association/ Department of Social Defense, Government of Tamilnadu, the program aims to form and train the block level watch dog committee on child trafficking issues.

64 members were participated and trained during the program.

The core components of the training were children, UN Declaration on child rights, child rights, child protection rights and measures, girl child protection, Child marriage issues, child and women trafficking, child protection acts and child protection forums in Tamilnadu.

Mr. Annadurai, Project Co-ordinator, WORD trained the members.

Community Play Mela 2010

This year Community Play Mela 2010 is being co-ordinated by WORD which will be held on 30th October 2010

The purpose of conducting the community play mela is to demonstrate various group activities that are undertaken in different communities especially women and children in throughout the community that we work. Sports provides a forum to learn skills such as discipline, confidence and leadership and it teaches the value of effort and how to manage victory as well as defeat. When these positive aspects of sports are emphasized, sports become powerful vehicle through which we can work towards achieving their goals.

Thalir Thiran Thittam

With the profound experience in life skills education program, WORD is all set to execute the new project, Thalir Thiran Thittam project in Namakkal District with the support of Aparajitha Foundations.

The project aims to reach the children in seventh class to educate core life skills with an interactive mode. The process of selection of schools are on.

During this academic year ( 2010-2011), this program will be implemented only in five schools in Namakkal District.

The educational materials such as note-books, slates, pen, pencil, boxes, school bags and chappals for children were distributed to the children of Poarasapalayam Panchayat Primary School on 7th October 2010 in the school campus.
